NYFW Recap: Carolina Herrera

I skipped NYFW this year as I couldn't take anymore time off of my full time job (in finance). My husband recently broke his collarbone skiing and I took off some time to help with his recovery. That, plus other family trips that were preplanned would just have meant too much time away from my desk job... it is so weird the company I work for expects me to be there if they are going to pay me!

Of course I had serious FOMO about so many of the shows... a full recap of what I loved from afar coming soon... but the one show I truly truly regret missing was Carolina Herrera. I was invited to sit front row, as well as be backstage with Ms. Herrera and her team, and did not hear, until after I had sent my regrets that this would be her final show as designer of her eponymous line. She will be moving into a global ambassador role after acting as head designer since the line began in 1980.

Below are some of my looks from the show! We saw so many of the house of Herrera's favorite things: wild animal prints, bright/bold colors, crisp white shirts (including tucked in with her signature wide belt!) and of course the wide awning stripe no one else does better. I rarely allow myself a wallow... but when I saw footage of this show I 100% threw myself a pity party for missing.

I am curious to see how Wes Gordon will evolve the brand as he assumes the head designer role, so much of fashion now is geared toward street wear, and a much younger, more casual guard. Paying homage to the ladylike, avant guarde gowns, and simplicity will be a challenge as he tries to flourish while attracting an ever changing consumer.

For those that cannot get enough, below is the full show video, and even farther down the page... some of my favorite pieces from past seasons you can shop now. If only I had a garden tea, or a black tie event coming up soon to justify purchasing another piece!
