4th Wedding Anniversary: 9-25-20

September 25 was our four year wedding anniversary!

I love nothing more than a good excuse to throw an over the top celebration! And this year, I felt like I had lots of reasons! We have had a rough year with lots of career, and family struggles and transitions, some personal health issues, and of course Covid/quarantining and everything else the rest of the world is struggling with! I know that so many people are struggling with hurricane and wildfire devastation, the aftermath of political and social unrest and inequality, fears and unease around the upcoming political election in the US, the worries and anxieties, job loss, social hardships, and health challenges with a global pandemic and so much more. I never want to trivialize them, or pretend not to be affected. We all are. However, I do prefer to focus on what we do have, not what we have lost, or struggled with, where possible.

I feel so blessed to be able to quarantine in Cabo with my husband, for our health, that of both our families, and to have this time we can use to focus on improving ourselves. Cabo has been hit very hard because of Covid. Tourism all but stopped here and 90% of the population works in an industry directly affected. I decided to throw a small (just us two) socially distant, health conscious dinner party and try and give business to as many local businesses as possible! Florists, planners, photographers, chef, animal handlers etc.

Our community beach club was kind enough to allow us to do our celebration at their facility, and on their beach front!

I was absolutely blown away but the setup once I saw it. I had meet with the event team, and chef and looked at some mockups of what they could do… and even sent them a picture of the dress I planned to wear, but really, in very unusual behavior for me, left them to do what they thought was best!

And it was STUNNING!

For years we have been celebrating some of our favorite days here in Cabo. Birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and for years I have been trying to get donkeys to come as honoured guests! It is hard to get the right permits for them to be on the beach, or the right amount of planning so that they wouldn’t already have a booked schedule etc.

You can imagine how thrilled I was to hear that this would FINALLY be the time! Every star aligned and we got the most darling mother and son donkey to come celebrate with us!

*Insert whatever joke you’d like here about what stubborn mules my husband and I both are!*

The mother and son were just the sweetest things! Well, I thought so, but my husband had a very close encounters. They kept butting him with their heads, or stepping on his toes!!

They were truly so darling in their floral garlands, and I was desperate to take them home with me… watch out Juanita and Juan & Only… I am coming to donkey-nap you one day soon!

We then made our way down to the actual beach to have a quick video montage of photos I had put together, and then dinner!

My heels and cocktail dress may have been a bit overkill for a beach soiree… but when am I not?!?!

The couches and tepee set up were so charming! I loved all the colors as the sunset began, everything coordinated just so, and you know my matching loving heart could hardly handle it!

We ate some appetizers, and watched a too long video of all my favorite photos of us (and some of our closest friends & family) over the past almost seven (total) years together!

We then sat down to a delicious dinner of salad, steak & veggies, churros BOTH blueberry (a specialty our favorite chef makes just for my husband and his blueberry obsession) and regular and then a small recreation of our wedding cake! WIth the addition of our newest pup baby Dougie!

It was truly such a perfect night and so fun to celebrate and reminisce!

The only thing I would change was, of course, the bugs who tried to crazy our fiesta!

I love you more everyday, and every year!
